The Tea on Me
Alright, so boom!
I started writing when I was 9 years old after finding a few sheets of notebook paper in my sister's bedroom where she'd crafted her own story! I was constantly making up outlandish plots for my Barbie dolls but until that moment, it'd never occurred to me that my imagination could extend beyond toys to the pages of a notebook.
I've always loved to read, but it didn't take me long to recognize that I couldn't always see myself in the pages of books. I remember dousing my hair with body spray and even rubbing my braids with lotion to try and get my hair to "smell like strawberries" like the girls in the books. When I was in Middle School, I asked my older brother how important it was to him for a girls hair to smell fruity, and I'll never forget when he told me, he loved it when a girls hair smelled like the familiar gel brand, Jam!
It was in that moment I realized there was nothing wrong with me, I just needed to read books that resembled me, and if I couldn't find them, then I was deadset on creating them.
So that's what you'll find here. Pages of authentic black women with authentic lives being fiercely loved by men that look like them. I write stories that make me smile, cry, and rub my feet together under the covers. I write characters that make me blush, giggle, and cover my face, peeking at the pages between my fingers. I write what I enjoy reading, and I hope that you enjoy it as well!
Thank you for letting me share these moments with you!
Happy Reading, and Happy Life!
With Love,
